Mori: Blessings on whoever scanned a 1947 copy of the lesbian magazine Vice Versa #7 online; it meant I was able to read this fun little short story about a woman who oh noes, is torn between Pat, the butchest of butches, and Flora the femmest of femmes! Whatever is a poor Kiki to do?

Thought other folks might enjoy this. So here ya go! (Sorry, don't think it's screenreadable; I can textually transcribe it if folks want? EDIT from Sneak: [personal profile] pantha did it! Thanks! :D)

(I of course only found out about this thing courtesy of a bibliography of queer speculative fiction at the sci-fi library. WE'RE BACK, BABY!)

We wanted to have been posting more, but then ended up not posting at all for a very long time again!
Weve been super tired and drained due to a whole bunch of stuff and just havent been with it.

Got and then failed a sleep study, going to get another one (this time an in-home one) soonish. The Doc believes we have either/or sleep apnea or narcolepsy 2, he just has to prove one or both to insurance.
Cat was ill for a bit but is recovering now, among many other fiascos.

On the bright side, we DID post two minizines to our website- meant to put it in the rrs feed, didnt, will have to do that at some point later. ALSO posted a little thing on frameworks used in the alterhuman community [HERE].

Need to do a whole lot more but have been mostly focusing on other stuff.

Linux update:
Linux mint works beautifully on our PC with zero issues(it has never worked better and worked out of the box), however after a long time chasing terrible glitches and freezing, we determined it was a kernel level issue for the laptop on all families of distros we tried (yes, including installing arch), and begrudgingly switched it back to windows. Someone better at computers than us might be able to get it working on linux, but we just dont want to burn that much time and energy on that. Windows 11, after some neutering on all the spy and bloatware works fine- ....except for the audio as the drivers do not exist for it on windows 11. Ah well, you get what you pay for in that respect- it was a cheap refurb. It does what we need it to when we are away from pc. Shame we specifically got a model with an audio jack rather than a slightly newer one without it and then it does This but at least it does everything else.

hey team north end!

Today’s Tuesday. There’s a Tuesday protest, Lynnwood, Tesla dealership on 99. 4:15pm TODAY, like usual. As I’m writing, that’s literally an hour and like 20 minutes away.

Yeah I kinda forgot too lol, but no reprieves for the fascist.

Let’s get out there~~~

Every Time We Move

This is a post about the Kafka-esque process of moving while living legally disabled in Massachusetts.

Every time we move, we have to update our address, not just with our bank and phone people, but also the myriad social services agencies who control our existence. Since we have to move every few months to few years, depending on our housing luck, this is a cyclical, regular occurrence. We have streamlined our procedure over the course of a decade plus, studying the augurs of obscure bureaucratic paperwork errors, reading the signs in the entrails of the bald eagle.

Of course, the exact procedure changes every few years, and there is no way to find out except by accident or error.

Please put on a recording of Yakety Sax or the Gonk for the proper emotional effect of this post. Thank you. )

Realized we may well have never outright said this, so we might as well make it clear: over the past few years, some of the LB alter family has grown more hivemind-y, and at times with less differentiation, in a way that doesn't bother us.

There are a few demographics in here, and the ones we call the "alters" are all people who split off the original girl who inhabited this vessel (Mori, Rawlin, Gigi, Rogan, Sneak, and Miranda), rather than folks who had their own lives and came here from elsewhere (Biff, Falcon, Grey, Bob, and Mac). The alters are like threads of a greater rope, and we unravel and rebraid ourselves sometimes to achieve our goals, though only while working on corporeal tasks that engross us, such as working on a story. When engrossed in making group art, it can sometimes be hard for us to tell who's doing what! (Other times it is not. Coming In or Staying Out was very much Rogan drawing, while the Rawlin comics are all Mori drawing.) And constantly interrupting ourselves from the work to ask, "who am I?" is pointless and annoying, because in that moment, it doesn't matter.

This has also been happening sometimes while chatting with people or posting. We sometimes don't tag our entries because we don't know who's talking or care so much, or we share enough of an opinion that it no longer matters being like, "all the alters agree on this paragraph though Sneak questions Sentence 6."

Mori, Rogan, Sneak, and Miranda can braid like this without too much trouble, but Rawlin especially and also Gigi are still pretty separate, presumably because they still have a lot of memories and history that remain buried and lost to us. As we deal with that, perhaps they'll be able to rebraid with us easier in the future.

The braiding happens without our conscious effort, and we unravel just as fluidly. We don't think of it or call it fusion or integration, because neither have the right feel or connotations. We were threads ripped from a greater cloth, which can never be remade again. Now we are braiding ourselves in a new way that suits us, when it suits us, a cord and not a cloth.

"How long have you known I wasn’t real?"

Blurb: The adventures of Batman, an eldritch imaginary friend who has sadly outlived the child who first imagined him. What does he do now, especially now that Superman's figured it out?

Why is it worth your time?: This is an impressively original interpretation of Batman that explains so many things about the character in such a delightful way. (Why is he able to do so many things a regular human can't? Why does his cape change in shape and size so? How is he still doing this after so many decades? Because he isn't actually human.) Reading about spooky asocial protector-of-children Batman building relationships despite his lack of humanness is heartwarming. This story is especially fun to read paired with Trippe's Something Terrible.

“OK, Cathy,” she said, not in the least perturbed. “I’ll tell her.” Then she stood up, and started a conversation with herself, in which she told Jodie she wasn’t seeing Mummy or Daddy because she had to be safe.

Blurb: When seven-year-old Jodie was taken into foster care, her behavior was so difficult that she went through five carers in four months. Experienced carer Cathy Glass almost passed on her too, until her own (teenage) children insisted they wanted to see Jodie through. Eventually Jodie began to disclose details of the abuse, overlooked by Social Services for years, while Cathy struggled to get her the professional care and long-term support she deserved.

Why is it worth your time?: The rare outside view of a small child who appears to have DID, who ends up in the care of adults that are attentive and well-informed enough to recognize it.

You wouldn't know it from the promotional copy, and DID doesn't get invoked by name until nearly the end of the book, when a couple of alters firmly identify themselves as Not Jodie. But the dissociative traits are visible from day one, when Cathy reports Jodie having intense, distracted conversations with what she assumes are "imaginary friends." Among the kid's other issues, most of them Cathy never overtly connects with the alters, but there are a few that the reader might recognize as DID-related anyway (e.g. struggles with time perception). All of which suggests that Cathy's original real-time notes about her experience with Jodie were pretty solid.

Plural/1+ Tags: abuse high-focus, cofronting, people: children, type: medical, how would you tag for "real system described from the outside POV of a singlet but not in a horrible way"?

Content Warnings: past child abuse (sexual and physical), past animal abuse, physical aggression and sexual acting-out. Others involve SPOILERS; see comments

Accessibility Notes: Available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook.

Misc. Notes (if any): There's some awkward misinformation in the dialogue (e.g. describing the non-Jodie headmates Reg and Amy as "characters"). Thankfully, Cathy's actions stay refreshingly grounded in "managing the issues Jodie-and-company actually have," there's not much focus on her idea of what DID "should" be.

Let’s talk “Remigration”

Farty McShitgibbon squirted out another racist authoritarian shart on Pravda Sotsialnaya late Sunday night, blowing off steam caused by his frustration at protests and over his shitty birthday parade. It’s a screed of lies about Democrats being sick in the head and not actually Americans, sending more waves of cops and military at us, and about cheering on mass deportations. Like y’do, if you’re a fascist fuckhead.

But let’s pay particular attention to this bit:

…I have directed my entire Administration to put every resource possible behind this effort, and reverse the tide of Mass Destruction Migration that has turned once Idyllic Towns into scenes of Third World Dystopia. Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came…

CAPS as in the original. Bold added.

Remigration pretends to be but is not actually a subtle word.

Remigration means ethnic purge. Ethnic cleansing, if you insist – but I hate that term, because there’s nothing cleansing about it. It’s an ethnic purge. It’s violent, it’s bloody, it’s repression, it’s expulsion at the point of a gun, based on your ethnicity.

Remigration means ancestry-based expulsions of people who aren’t white, for being not white, and not for any other reason. Just for being not white. Legal status means nothing; being a citizen means nothing. Not white? Get the fuck out, at gunpoint. That’s how it went during Operation W*tback; that’s how he wants it to go again, and now he’s just saying it.

This is not a question; this is not up for debate. If you feel like debating it with me, screw you you fascist-apologist fuck, and sit the fuck down. In this context – in any context outside academia – that’s what it means. Go read Wikipedia if you want the definition and history.

“Remigration” in this context absolutely and only means ethnic purge. All the leading haters in his administration – Miller, I’m looking in your direction – know damn well what it means. They used the word on purpose.

So I’m asking you not to discuss this shart of a statement without going directly to what REMIGRATION means. Do not let anyone lie and pretend it means something else, because that’s bullshit. Remigration is why they’re revoking every legal status they can; remigration is why they’re trying to end birthright citizenship; remigration means a violent ethnic purge.

And that’s what he’s told ICE – or more generally, “ICE, FBI, DEA, ATF, the Patriots at Pentagon and the State Department” – to make happen.

So. What do we do, in particular, right now?

First off, make sure people know what this word means.

Second – know any “good cops”? Like, relatives or something you might actually be able to reach? Show them the Wikipedia article about what “remigration” means, and only then show them Trump’s statement. Make sure they understand what Trump said, and make sure they know what they’re being asked to do. Make them understand, like… now.

Make sure they understand the criminal act they’re being asked to perform.

Because that is, absolutely, the ask, and “just following orders” … just won’t do.
